Artist Statement:
Formulations intertwines the idea of nature as both an ordered experience of layered systems and a convergence of seemingly random acts where chance plays the authoritative role. This dichotomy of nature, as either a logical matrix or chaotic interaction of events, is experienced through the direct observation of patterns and forms—the impressions left by the actions of natural processes—whether they be fixed or momentary. While no explicit answer was put forth to resolve the question of whether nature is inherently chaotic or constrained by logic, the work represented the act of observing nature in a manner that could only be described as redemptive. The viewer then is left with the impression that the mere process of seeing and thus participating in the intricate processes of nature found around him or her has significance. This was my MFA thesis exhibition.
